Scheduled Sync Documents can suffer from a variety of issues. Most scheduling issues can be resolved by double-checking your settings and confirming that everything is configured so your sync runs at the scheduled time. Step through the following issues and then follow the associated instructions to get your scheduled sync to run as desired.
SCHEDULED SYNC DOESN'T RUN
If for any reason your scheduled sync document doesn’t run as expected, use this Scheduled Sync Doesn’t Run Tech Note first to check all ChronoSync preference settings are ready to run scheduled syncs in the background.
SCHEDULED SYNC SETTINGS NOT SAVED
If you have difficulty changing the schedule settings for a particular sync document, use this Scheduled Sync Settings not Saved Tech Note to learn how to view and modify the schedule settings of your sync documents.
HOW DO I SCHEDULE A SYNC?
Scheduling a sync document to run automatically is an integral and powerful feature of ChronoSync. We have prepared a video tutorial, “Schedule A ChronoSync Sync Document To Run Automatically”, that shows the steps you take to schedule one of your saved sync documents to run periodically.
CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE MISSED SYNC BEHAVIOR OPTIONS?
ChronoSync has options to control how it behaves when a scheduled sync is missed due to the mac being asleep, shutdown, or the user is logged out. If you are not sure how to configure this behavior, or are belive ChronoSync is mis-behaving with the handling of missed-syncs, use this Missed Sync Behavior Tech Note to try to resolve any problems.
HOW DO I HAVE CHRONOSYNC PERFORM LIVE OR REAL TIME SYNCS?
ChronoSync doesn’t support real-time monitoring of a folder, but you can schedule a sync document to run very frequently. It doesn’t take much overhead to scan unless the folder contains many, many items. Just set the sync to run every 5 minutes or so, and any changes will be picked up and synced at that interval. If the folder has few items, you can schedule even more frequently. Just try to leave enough time for the currently running sync to complete before it is scheduled to start again. If a sync document is running when it comes time to run again, then the pending sync will be skipped.
HOW DO I RUN SCHEDULED SYNCS WHEN NOT LOGGED IN?
We don’t have a product that runs as a daemon to execute sync documents. It is something that is planned, but we don’t have a specific date for implementation.
Currently, you have to leave ChronoSync Background Scheduler running in a logged in account. You also can’t set a wake password as this will interfere with waking the mac to run a sync.
There is one workaround you can use to get it to work. You can log in an account and schedule CS to do it’s thing there, then just switch over to the login window. The login screen security that’s in place requires any user to know the password of the account in order to log back in.
MY SCHEDULED SYNC DOESN'T RUN WHEN MAC SLEEPS
If your syncs are missed because the mac is asleep, then you can enable the Preference Setting “Wake system to synchronize” on the ‘Scheduler’ preference pane. Just launch ChronoSync, choose the ChronoSync Menu->Preferences, and switch to the ‘Scheduler’ preference pane. Be sure you don’t have a wake password as this will interfere with waking the mac to run a sync.
